C'Mon Get Happy: Dog of the Week

'Tis the season to be jolly! With holiday cheer in the air, who isn’t happy? I know I am!
Literally, my name is Happy!

Just take a look at my picture. Can’t you see happiness written all over my face?  I am one perfect sized ball of fluff, poodle-terrier fluff that is.

I love this time of year. Whether it’s running through freshly raked piles of leaves or curling up by the fire, this time of year is special. Thanksgiving and Christmas make it even more special. Can you imagine the table scraps and all the bowls I get to lick? It’s like paradise for dogs.

What would make this time of year even more special would be a fur-ever home! Please stop by Small Miracles today and visit me. I promise I will help you clean up all the plates from Christmas dinner!

P.S.  Make sure you check out the flier for our Loving Cats for Senior Laps.

Judgment Free: Cat of the Week

Hello, I’m Ricky and I’m “That Guy.”  You know the one.  That guy you can always count on to be there for you when you need a friend?   I’m the guy that is always there with a listening ear and never judges you.  I’m always happy to see you and certainly always have time for friends. I’m a big guy so that means I give great big bear hugs to comfort you when you need it most!

So why have I been at Small Miracles for over a year and a half?  Boy, I wish I knew!
Maybe people find my all white fur boring?  Maybe people want someone younger? All I know is that I will make a great addition to any family.
If you have ever thought, boy I’d like to get a true rescue some day, then I’m your cat! My adoption fee has even been reduced to help me find a home quicker.
Not into cats?  Come and see Luna who has been here longer than any other dog.

Prim, Proper and Full of Affection: Cat of the Week

Why, hello ladies. My name is London and I am one fine young chap. Now let me ask you some questions. Are you tired of your husband not being affectionate enough? Does he expect you to do too much around the house after a long day of work? Does your significant other have a tendency to dress like a bum around the house? If you answered yes to any of these questions, it sounds like you need a little London in your life. My mum taught me well. First of all, men should always be presentable. I always wear my tuxedo. No matter what. No, really, I do. The pattern of my luxurious black and white fur is called a tuxedo coat so you will be guaranteed I’ll always be looking fine. Not getting enough affection? You need a loving cat in your life. I will never say no to a good head or back scratch and would love to curl up happily in your lap. I’ll never turn down your offer for attention. I promise I won’t have unrealistic expectations either. I know you work hard. Just keep my litter box clean and my bowls filled and I won’t complain. I may even follow you around as you clean. Chasing mops are fun, but don’t expect me to stay around for the vacuum cleaner. Please stop by Small Miracles today and visit me!

Two of a Kind: Dog(s) of the Week

Hello!  I’m Lady and I’m a shepherd/retriever mix.  In my opinion, there are two main rules.Number one: Dogs are way cooler than cats.  Number two: Girls rule and boys drool. Seriously, have you ever met a male dog that didn’t drool?

Obviously the human writing these articles didn’t get that memo.  She is making me share the featured spot with a BOY.  How rude! His name is Shep and he is also a shepherd mix.

She said she wanted to feature a bigger dog that would make a great family pet and could not decide between the two of us. Blah Blah Blah. Sense a little bit of resentment? Well, Shep and I do have a history  . ..   No, not that kind!

We were both rescued from a high-kill shelter in North Carolina by Small Miracles.
I’m certainly more beautiful than him. I am also a very loving and affectionate dog. I do have to admit, however, that Shep also has a great temperament and is just as friendly.

If you are looking for the perfect companion to complete your family, we may just be the dog for you! We will greet you at the door with our wagging tails and silly dog grins. We will love playing with your kids outside and when they get tired, we make the perfect over-sized fluffy pillows to relax with. Please stop by Small Miracles today to me us! (But make sure to see me first!)

Why Not Be Happy? Cat of the Week

Hello my friend!  My name is Felicity! I love my name because it means happiness and I am one happy girl. I’m patient, quiet, and kind. It’s rare to find be in a bad mood because I am just happy to be here and happy to be healthy again.

The streets are a rough life for anyone and cats are no different.
I don’t quite remember how it happened, but by the time I came to Small Miracles, I had open wounds on my back foot. The wound was so severe that a few of my back toes had to be amputated. I could be sad or bitter about my rough past and losing a few toes, but what’s the point in that?
Being bitter does not get you anywhere; and certainly not a home.

So, I made the decision to always be happy! Even when they took my stitches out, I sat calmly in the volunteers arms without making a fuss. Now that I’m all better, it’s time to find a new loving, fur-ever home! Won’t you please come visit me?
You know I’ll be happy to see you!

A Little Off: Dog of the Week

Good day!  My name is Sebastian; after all, a little rat terrier like me needs a big name.  Like our last dog of the week, Omar, I’m another true rescue.  While I’m not as old as my pal Omar, I do have a disability so that makes me extra special.

When I was a younger lad, I developed quite a back problem and as a result, I had my back fused.  I’m no longer in any pain, but I do walk a bit sideways, not quite like our Maryland blue crab though.  Even though I walk funny, I still love going on walks!  Once on a leash I’ll wiggle and walk all around which does make it just about impossible to get a good picture of me.
I would love a quieter home where I would make a great companion and lap dog.  A nice quiet home would be a dream come true!  Do I mind cats you might wonder?  Well, it is a bit embarrassing being about half the size of a cat but I could learn to share.
Please stop by Small Miracles today to meet me!  While you are here, also visit Omar who is “half price” due to his age.

Her Name was Lulu ... Dog of the Week

Hello!  You know the song, so sing it with me!

“Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl
With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there
She would merengue and do the cha-cha . .
 . “
OK, OK, so my name isn’t Lola.  It’s Lulu and that’s close enough as far as I’m concerned.  I’m a showgirl at heart.  I’m a diva that loves all the attention she can get without the attitude.  Take me on a walk and I’ll to the cha-cha around your feet.  Why?  Because I am so happy to be with you and be on a walk!

I am a very sweet little Chihuahua.  The only thing that would make be prettier would be to put yellow flowers in my collar.  I love people and love dance around your feet – wouldn’t you always feel like celebrating if you were rescued from a kill shelter? Please stop by Small Miracles today.  Once you meet me, you won’t be able to leave without this ray sunshine in your life!

Happy Belated Mother's Day: Dog of the Week

Hello!  My name is Matilda and I’m a mom.  Last week, Patch.com featured all of our mother cats, so this week they picked a mother dog!  Mother's Day may have passed, but it’s never too late to celebrate mom.
When I came to Small Miracles, I was heavily pregnant.  Soon after being brought to my foster home, I gave birth to eight of the cutest puppies you could ever see. Their cuteness got them homes instantly, but I am still here.
I’m a lab mix and full of love. I’m not quite sure where my I got my fluffy coat from, but it does make me extra soft and snuggly! I am a very sweet, calm dog. I enjoy going on long walks and do very well on a leash.  I can’t wait to find my fur-ever home! Please stop by Small Miracles today and take me home!
Still want to support Small Miracles but cannot adopt a pet?  Come out to the yard sale on Saturday, May 19.  All proceeds go to Small Miracles.

A Coyote to Call Your Own: Dog of the Week

Hello, I’m Luna! When most people talk about getting a dog, the typical breeds come up: labs, retrievers, terriers, and poodles.  But deep down, I’m sure the thought, “wouldn’t it be so cool to have a wolf or coyote as a pet” has crossed your mind.  Well, here is your chance to own your very own coyote!

Ok, so I may have exaggerated a bit, but I do look an awfully lot like a blonde coyote with my big ears and bushy tail.  I am part Sheppard, part collie, and part whatever else you want me to be.
I am a very sweet girl; much quieter than my noisy neighbors.  I came to Small Miracles when I was pregnant.  My adorable puppies all found their loving homes a few weeks ago, but I am still here waiting for the perfect person to take me home.  I like peace and quiet and am looking forward to becoming your new loyal companion.  (And if you want to tell your friends I’m a wild coyote you befriended out west, I promise I won’t say anything)

Let's go for a Walk: Dog of the Week

Hiya, hello, howdy! Oh, I’m just so excited I can’t contain myself!

My name is Alicia and I’m a boxer mix -- a boxer mixed with pure excitement that is! I am an enthusiastic young lady that is so full of love. I love people. I love going on walks. I love to play and I love attention.

I’m so glad Small Miracles rescued me from a county pound. As soon as they met me, they knew I deserved a second chance. I make sure I let all the volunteers know how grateful I am by giving them the best greeting when they take me on walks.

I’ll admit it though; I’m only happy 99 percent of the time. You should see the sad puppy dog face I give when my walk is done. What can I say? I love people and am happiest when I’m with them and saddest when I see them go.

Please come visit me today; I know you will love me as much as I love you!

Looking For a Buddy? Cat of the Week

Are you looking for a great buddy? Well, look no further!

My name is Buddy Boy and I would love to be your new best buddy. I’m super sweet, affectionate, and love attention.

In fact, I’m so sweet, that I was rescued from a kill shelter because Small Miracles saw just how special I am.

Because I am an adult cat, I’m calm and well behaved. Sure, I’d still love to play, but cuddling and acting cute are my top priorities now.

Stop by Small Miracles today and take your new best Buddy Boy home!

Original post date: 11/23/11
Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm Alaska and I am an all-American, girl-next-door type of cat. I am sweet, kind, pretty, and fun-loving. Basically, I am the purrfect girl to bring home to meet the parents.

I really do love people. I stand in the table by the door to my room and greet everyone that comes in. Oh, and I just love to have my chin scratched!

Stop by Small Miracles today and bring this all American girl home for this great American holiday. I sure would be thankful!

And did I mention that I love turkey?

ADOPTED: Help These Sisters Stay Together - Still Available!

Original post date: 9/16/2011

Hello! We are the Cat-dashian sisters, Gracie and Jade. We are a dashingly beautiful set of sisters that love being together.

Unlike those reality star Kardashian sisters, we are down to earth, low-maintenance girls with only one request: We need to be adopted together. We couldn’t imagine life without each other.

One of us is shy and the other outgoing, but we are equally as sweet and as soft as can be. We don’t need designer collars or diamond-studded food bowls; a nice lap to cuddle in and head scratches will do. Adopt us and make us the stars of you home.

Please come visit us at Small Miracles Cat Rescue today.

ADOPTED: Small Miracles Saved My Life so You Can Bring me Home

Original Patch.com post date: 8/23/11

I’m Helen and I am a true Small Miracle!

Because I wasn’t spayed, I got pregnant at a young age and had a very serious complication. By the time I arrived at Small Miracles Cat Rescue (SMRC), I had a hernia the size of a baseball. SMRC gave me a life-saving surgery to repair my hernia and then I was nursed back to health by the volunteer staff.

That was a scary time in my life so I am glad I am doing better now. I feel very lucky to be alive!

And boy, was I worth saving! I am a beautiful young girl and my fur is even softer than it looks. I am a total sweetheart and love affection. My beautiful kittens all found homes and even though I will miss them, I am happy for them and look forward to finding my fur-ever home.

Not only do I hope you come visit me at Small Miracles, but I hope my story shows you the importance of spaying or neutering your cat. If you are not able to take me home, you can donate to SMCR to help cover the cost of my expensive, life-saving surgery. Or the surgeries performed on hundreds of other cats here.

ADOPTED: Who Needs Four Legs? Cat of the Week

Hello!

My name is Gabriella. Do you remember Petula, the calico from last week? Well, I was rescued after the same house fire as her. I may not be Patch’s first ever calico (although I’m just as pretty), however, I am Patch’s first cat with only three legs!

Yep, you heard me right. I am missing one of my back legs.

But honestly, looking at me, you would never know there was anything different about me. I’m a big, friendly, fluffy ball of love. I have adapted to life with only three legs so I know I will adapt to life in my new home just fine.

Come in and visit me today at Small Miracles Cat Rescue. Once you hug me you will not want to put me down!

ADOPTED: From a Drainpipe to a Small Miracles: Cat of the Week

Original Patch.com post date: 10/17/11

Hello all! My name is Brynn and boy am I hoping today is my lucky day.

I wasn’t always so lucky. I used to live in an underground drain pipe with my kittens. I really was an amazing mother and protected my kittens with all my might. I slept at the end of the drain pipe with my babies safe inside to protect them from any threats that came by. Can you even believe kids would even try to poke sticks at them?

When my Small Miracles Rescuers came to get me, I wasn’t feral at all. I went right up to them and showed them just how sweet I can be. My babies have all found homes and now it’s my turn.

You think having such a tough life and being such a great mother would have helped me to get a home by now, right? Well, I am Feline Aids positive and that has scared everyone away. I may have even contracted it protecting my kittens. This doesn’t mean that I am any less deserving of a loving home, I can still live a long, happy life. Click here to read more about Feline Aids. Please come to Small Miracles today and take me home.

ADOPTED: Bring Petula Home: Cat of the Week

Hello, my name is Petula! You know what’s cool? I’m the first calico cat to be featured as Patch.com’s cat of the week! That makes me extra special. I also like to think I am the softest cat so far to be featured, but don’t tell the other cats – I’m sure they will have a hissy fit about that.

You know what’s not so cool? Being left behind after a fire. After my house caught on fire, I was left behind and was really scared until Small Miracles took me in. Now that I am in the shelter, I am not scared any more. I am very excited to be adopted and go to my new home. Stop by Small Miracles and take me home today!

ADOPTED: I Just Wanna Have Fun: Cat of the Week

Hello! I’m Bekah. Can you guess why I’m the cat of the week? (Other than my complete cuteness of course.) The volunteer who writes these articles wants me outta here!

Yes, you heard me right, she doesn’t want me here any more.

Maybe it’s because I’m constantly rubbing up against her legs making it difficult for her to walk. Or, it could be because I’m always playing with toys and sliding through the dust piles she just swept up.

My playfulness is quite entertaining you know!

I also insist on helping her clean each cage by walking in and testing the fresh water and food. The other cats don’t care much for that either. Maybe it’s because I make her stop cleaning constantly so she can snuggle me.

If it were up to me, I’d get her full attention; forget about those other cats.

So if you are looking for a very friendly cat that loves to play and cuddle, I just might be the one for you! Stop by Small Miracles today and take me home. Otherwise, I’ll just keep hogging all the attention for myself!

ADOPTED: Looking For a Family: Cat of The Week

Happy winter! My name is Jocasta. Did you see it snow yesterday? It was just so pretty! I love watching the snow fall, but I bet it would be even better to watch sitting in front of a fireplace curled up in your lap!

I’ve been at Small Miracles Cat Rescue since May and really do hope I get my fur-ever home soon. I’m super sweet and oh so pretty! I have beautiful green eyes and the prettiest orange highlights throughout my tabby coat. And my lovely personality far exceeds my pretty fur. I love people and have no problem living with other cats. Please stop by soon and visit me!

ADOPTED: New Year, New Home For Libby: Cat of the Week

Happy New Year! My name is Libby and boy am I glad 2012 is here. Last year, well, it just wasn’t a good year for me.

I was in a wonderful loving home as happy as could be. Then, everything changed. My loving owner had to move into a retirement home and couldn’t take me with him. We were both absolutely devastated. He brought me to Small Miracles because he knew they would help find a good home for me!

We all make New Years resolutions and mine is to find a new loving family!
And sure, I could cut back on the milk and shed a few ounces, but who couldn’t?

Please stop by and visit me soon, I can’t wait to meet you!
